A city policeman entered the office to face three of us at once. Which person to talk to? We were all too helpful, and a choice had to be made. He came to my desk.
Someone had stolen a purse at a convenience store. A fuzzy image was caught on the security camera, witnesses gave a description and mentioned that she might be a caregiver. Was she one of our caregivers? I was sure she was not; we are quite picky about who we hire. But we went over the description; no one like that was working for us.
He said that our company was the first that came to mind. He did not know many home care companies, and did I know of any others? I gave him a list, since they are not all in the yellow pages, and very few of them advertise. No wonder that he thought of us first. Top of Mind is exactly what we want.
On his way out the door, he noticed our caregiver pictures posted on the bulletin board and looked them over. I hadn't thought of that. I had posted the pictures so caregivers could easily recognize each other, since they were seldom all together. They did make good "mug shots."
Should I be wicked and point out the bulleten board to applicants, telling them that the police like to take a look once in a while? A little pre-screen test to see their reactions?
